Behind the scenes of photos

Movie goers will at some point see some behind the scenes of how movies are made. Much like all Jackie Chan movies, where he will always show behind the scenes bloopers, injuries and blunders at the end of his movie. They can be funny and an eye opener for those who never give a second thought on what happens behind. We always see nice and interesting photos but what we don’t see is how the photographers take them.  I think I’ll probably start a series of blog posts that falls under this topic.

I will start with this photo.

This is a processed photo which was taken in Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia back in 2014. This photo has left a great memory for me, it also left a lasting and funny impressions on my friends. We organized a travelling photo and outdoor portrait trip and when I first saw this location, I was so excited. In my mind, I was picturing how I can pose my subjects for their portrait shots. My peers were grouping at one corner shooting away. I didn’t want to have the same angle as them and so I moved to another side and this was my biggest mistake.

Below is the coloured version of the same photo. I need to show you the original colour version and the reason will be apparent in a while.

As you can see the ground looks dried up and solid. I had to go closer for a snap. Upon going closer, I got stuck as it was not really dry. I managed to get out of it but my feet was dirtied with soil and I had to clean it. Being the smartass, I walked to another side with some water to clean it. I was DEADWRONG! I got myself into deeper soil and this time, my leg was being gulped by the soil. I was knee deep and my peers were laughing at me. Inside me I was beginning to panic as I couldn’t move at all. At that point, all I could think of was saving the camera. I managed to pass my camera to my friend and then started to free myself. I had to sprawl myself to spread my weight and then slowly ease my way out. The process took a while and I was perspiring like mad. During this time, my photographer friends had to do something, no they didn’t save me but they had to take photos of me ? haha. Below are the photos of me in this stupid predicament.

Photographer setting up

After much cleaning.

So, this is it, photographers will go to great length just to get a good photo. Was it worth it? Hell yeah! Would I do it again? Well, yes but not unknowingly though. This has got to be one of the most memorable trip I had even though I didn’t manage to get the outdoor portrait done. I will end this blog post with another view of this place. More stories coming up.
